Objective
Badan Geologi, due to its experiences in assessing natural hazards, is in a key position to introduce standards for georisk analyses. As part of its routine work, Badan Geologi processes geohazard maps, e.g. for earthquakes, volcanoes and landslides and socialises information to the public. The main focus of the Georisk-Project is to develop and test georisk analysis processes primarily based on existing hazard and vulnerability data. Resulting georisk analyses are aimed to provide important information to back- budgeting and planning decisions for disaster prone regions. As the establishment of georisk management is a complex challenge the principles of the project are to elaborate first order approaches for pilot study areas (“keep it simple”) and to constantly evaluate the appropriateness of the methods applied (“learning by doing”).Objectives are:
- to develop georisk assessment methodologies and guidelines and to support the implementation of findings in national, provincial and local risk mitigation strategies;
- to generate georisk analyses for selected pilot areas and hazards on different map scales;
- to support local government and other intermediaries who are commissioned to implement disaster mitigation countermeasures at the local level.
